2004 CANADIAN AGRI-FOOD AWARDS
OF EXCELLENCE WINNERS ANNOUNCED
TORONTO,
Nov. 8, 2004 – Dedication, leadership and outstanding achievements in the
agriculture and agri-food industry were honoured today with the presentation of
the 2004 Canadian Agri-Food Awards of Excellence.
The awards were presented
at a special luncheon hosted by Michael Belcourt, President and Chairman of the
Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF), whose organization co-sponsors the annual
awards program with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Mr. Paul Steckle, MP for
Huron-Bruce, represented Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable
Andy Mitchell, at the event.
The awards recognize
achievement in five categories: environmental stewardship, agricultural
awareness and education, innovation, voluntarism, and agri-food export. These
areas are key to the success and growth of the agriculture sector in Canada.
"The Royal has been
the premier public forum for recognizing the best in Canadian agriculture,"
said Mr. Belcourt. "It is truly a pleasure to celebrate these shining stars
in Canadian agri-food excellence in the heart of the biggest city in
Canada."
"These outstanding
Canadians truly exemplify why Canada is a world leader in the agriculture and
agri-food industry," said Mr. Steckle. "They are making tremendous
contributions to the growth of the sector, and I would like to congratulate them
for their outstanding achievement."
Following the luncheon,
