The Rural Ramble Farm Tour is a two-day, self-guided driving
tour of working farms and rural attractions in Northumberland County, Ontario.
Rural Ramble takes place every August.
This special family-oriented weekend event is just an hour drive
east of the Greater Toronto Area, along the north shore of Lake Ontario and
south of Rice Lake.
Entrance is by admission and visitors are provided with
wristbands and a detailed passport to over 20 sites to assist them on their
personalized tour.
The tour was the brainchild of five farm couples who sought to
educate urban residents about food production and the economic importance of
agriculture. The County borders on Lake Ontario and owes its agricultural
productivity to its unique topography and climate. With more than 2500
volunteers, it receives strong support from local farm commodity and community
groups, businesses, banks and municipalities. In August 2004, more than 4000
people visited the milking demos, livestock displays, bison, apiculture, maple
syrup, aquaculture, crop demonstrations and machinery displays. Now in its fifth
year, the event has grown into a provincial attraction with international
visitors.
Rural Ramble is an opportunity to get back to your rural roots
and experience first-hand the lifestyles of your still-rural neighbours.
